Nits: Home Treatments That Work

by gregory martini

There are hundreds of thousands of women all over the world who complain of lice related problems. Though there are many different types of shampoos and other products available which are used for treating lice, only a few of them are really effective. Moreover, most of the lice removal products are chemical-based.

This can leave your hair looking dull and flat. Is it really wise to stop using the lice removal shampoo? You do have other choices available when it comes to lice treatment. A lot of times these items can be hard to locate. Your kids will also complain if they have lice in their hair.

Lice are often called "head lice", since they tend to congregate in areas of the human body that are covered with hair. Lice are parasitic, living off the blood they draw from the scalp. The infestation can also keep vitamins and nutrients from reaching the hair, resulting in the loss of body and shine.

Nits are the eggs of lice; they are a parasitic, meaning that they live off of another. Nits will adhere to the scalp and feed off of your blood. This feeding will cause an intense itch, but will also be one of the first signs that you or your child has head lice

Lice do not produce a few hundred eggs; together they account for millions of nits in our hair. There are some excellent products available which are quite effective in treating head lice. The simplest among them is perhaps a lice comb. In general, a lice comb has tough bristles which are narrow too. When you move a lice comb through your hair, the bristles catch hold of lice which can then be manually killed.

The disadvantage of lice combs is that they only work effectively if a person has a grown-up lice infection. These combs are ineffective of treating nits. Lemon juice and Rosemary oil can also be used for treating lice, and Lice shampoos take a few weeks before results are seen. Many do-it-yourself remedies are available on the Web, which can help you to know "how to get rid of head lice"
